MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (November 12, 2018) – The Goodman Group, a national leader in developing and managing senior living and health care communities, received the Bronze Award for Innovator of the Year in the Senior Living track for the 2018 McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards. In addition, two communities managed by The Goodman Group, Regal Palms and Royal Palms at The Palms of Largo campus, located in Largo, Fla., received the Bronze Award in the Marketing category of the Senior Living track for the 2018 McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards.

The Goodman Group received the award for the use of point of care salivary alpha-amylase (sAA) analysis to determine change in stress levels of assisted living memory care residents during their day in order to improve the quality of care provided to them. The new technology enhances the ability of staff to identify activities/events and interventions that increased or decreased the stress levels of the residents and is reflected in the plan of care accordingly. It also has the potential to advance research regarding effectiveness of interventions for individuals with cognitive impairments.

Royal Palms and Regal Palms received the award for the implementation of a pilot group virtual reality experience for the residents. Rendever, Inc., created the virtual reality programs for older adults by using algorithms that convert 360 panoramic photos, to drive connectedness and reduce loneliness. Residents participated every week as a type of ‘new experience club,’ which spurred conversations, drew in family members and helped staff members learn more about the residents.
