Minneapolis-based Company Advances First of its Kind Experiential Memory Care with New Community in Naples, FLA.

The Goodman Group Combines World-Leading Care Practices, Architectural Design and Multi-sensory Technology to Reinvent What Memory Care Can Be

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (August 26, 2015) – The Goodman Group, a national leader in developing and managing senior living and health care communities, celebrated the opening of Villa at Terracina Grand, an innovative, state-of-the-art experiential memory care community in Naples, Fla. Villa at Terracina Grand reflects 50 years of senior living and health care experience with leading-edge innovation, exceptional design, comprehensive integrative healing arts, and compassionate care.

Situated on the campus of Terracina Grand Senior Living Community, Villa at Terracina Grand, a 60-bed, 61,000 square foot premier memory care community, is an international center for innovation in memory care, dedicated to developing and offering evidence-based advancements in experiential, integrative health care approaches for residents needing memory care. It incorporates all components of the organization’s Soulful Environments™ initiative which provides multi-sensory enhanced environments designed to support residents in achieving an optimum level of wellbeing.

The new community for The Goodman Group is a long-time vision of Chairman John Goodman.

“This is a dream come true,” said John Goodman. “It brings together our more than 50 years’ experience in designing and managing senior living and health care communities nationwide. Villa at Terracina Grand draws upon leading insights from international experts in how to best serve this growing resident population.”

Goodman expects that Villa at Terracina Grand will implement and refine patient-centered approaches to memory care, which will be adopted by other communities managed by The Goodman Group and ultimately enhance memory care globally. Memory care is the fastest growing segment in the long-term care industry and the need is staggering. Alzheimer’s — just one type of dementia that requires memory care — affects 5.3 million Americans, or one in nine older Americans. Someone develops Alzheimer’s in the U.S. every 67 seconds and by mid-century, it is expected to be one every 33 seconds.

“Both the residents and their families benefit from our Soulful Environments amenities,” added Goodman. “We create experiences to help families make a connection. The result is a better quality of life for the resident and a more satisfying experience for family and friends who visit, which generally results in family coming to visit more often to enjoy the company of their loved one.”

Soulful Environments™ uses architectural and interior design, technology, holistic therapies and evidence-based health and wellness research to create multi-sensory immersion environments that are relaxing, calming, and enriching.

Among the many innovative Soulful Environments™ offered are:

  • Nature Immersion Room – Provides residents with a multi-sensory nature-based experience that will help reinforce a daily sense of routine and circadian rhythm, which plays a key role in memory function. The room is equipped with a 110 inch NEC 4K Ultra High Definition Video Screen with 7.2 Channel Dolby Atmos ready for multidimensional sound and aromatherapy. The video will feature majestic local nature scenes at key moments during the day, including an early morning sunrise by the ocean, mid-day in a fruit grove and an evening sunset among the pine trees in the Everglades.
  • Arabella’s Garden – A therapeutic landscape focusing critical attention on the design and creation of a landscape to promote health and wellbeing, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based design to meet the needs of residents with dementia, as well as those of visitors and staff.

Villa at Terracina Grand is the first to apply the MIL method at this level.
