Senior Living Lifestyle

Wellbeing

Food for Life provides residents at The Goodman Group’s senior living communities with a wide variety of whole, locally-sourced foods. This dining program features plant-based nutrition while minimizing processed foods and maximizing nutritional value, flavor and presentation. Rooted in a mind, body, spirit approach, Food for Life™ helps enable residents to achieve an optimum level of overall wellbeing. Each meal is thoughtfully plated to stimulate appetites with flavor, color, texture, and beauty. Our residents enjoy whole, delicious, vegan, sugar-free and low sodium food options delivered from a professional chef-driven kitchen.

Bringing together people of all ages is an important focus of The Goodman Group. Children learn from the experiences and encouragement of seniors, while children’s wonder and boundless enthusiasm helps keep seniors young at heart. Intergenerational Living & Healthcare (ILHC) is a nonprofit organization pioneering interactive programs for children and seniors. Based in Minneapolis, the nonprofit has assisted living and health care communities in several states, as well as an early childhood center where ILHC’s mission and vision is realized. Our mission is to embrace all generations through innovative programs and services that create life enriching communities.

Our vision for Intergenerational Living & Healthcare is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and older adults. For seniors we provide housing, healthcare, programming, services and interactions between the generations. For youth: we enhance learning opportunities and responsible choices by educating the whole child through interactions with seniors. For the community, we provide understanding and support between the generations.

Developed in partnership with a board-certified exercise physiologist, FIT Functional Fitness® is designed to go beyond typical senior fitness programs to help improve residents’ core strength, balance and cardiovascular health, as well as promote relaxation. The targeted exercises are created to deliver the maximum benefit for each participant. The goal is to increase overall health and wellbeing, reduce potential for falls, and encourage residents to remain active. Where possible, the program can reduce the need for assistive mobility devices.

FIT Functional Fitness® incorporates four fitness programs, taking current health levels into consideration and allowing all residents to participate, no matter their current functional fitness level. As their strength and endurance increases, residents may choose to progress to the other programs offered.

FIT to be Strong® – The core of the FIT Functional Fitness® program, FIT to be Strong® incorporates strength building exercises both seated and lying down, and balance exercises while standing.

FIT to Stretch® – Stretching exercises aimed at decreasing pain and improving range of motion, while promoting relaxation.

FIT to Pedal® – Endurance based exercise where participants use a stationary pedaler.

FIT to Balance® – A progressive program designed to enhance the time individuals spend on their feet, improving endurance and balance skills. Participants can work their way up to having more balance confidence, which equates to fewer falls and increased independence.

When someone you know is experiencing memory loss, we’re here with Pearls of Life®, our personalized memory care program. Pearls of Life recognizes the value of each individual and helps residents live dignified, well-rounded lives. Residents discover the treasures, or pearls, within. This is made possible with opportunities for personal pursuits and social activities. Our caregivers working in memory care receive dementia and Alzheimer’s training and ongoing in-service continuing education.

With Pearl of Home®, our memory care environments are designed for the resident to feel comfortable, safe, and secure. An atmosphere is created that provides structure and routine, while allowing flexibility to meet individual needs. Ongoing support is given to our residents and their families, which assists everyone during all stages of the transition process and through the progression of their diagnosis. With Pearl of Health®, we assist you, your family, or responsible party to develop a personalized plan of care that identifies the resident’s care needs. The Care Plan is updated to reflect changes in the resident’s current needs. With Pearl of Enrichment®, we respect each individual’s interests, needs and abilities, adapting their activities so they can experience continued successes. We actively encourage their participation at all levels of involvement in a variety of activities, recognizing that new interests can still be developed, enjoyed, and appreciated.

Valiant Veterans™ is a Life Enrichment program open to anyone who has served in the U.S. military, as well as their spouses, family members and friends. The response to the program has been tremendous. Our program gives veterans a chance to talk with one another, share stories and commemorate unique times in American history. It is such an honor for us to host the program – it gives us a chance to honor their service to our country. Our residents and guests are so proud of their service, and they share the most amazing stories of courage, valor and commitment.

Soulful Environments™ is a Goodman Group design philosophy, rooted in a keen understanding of the intrinsic bond between people and nature. Soulful designs are multisensory therapeutic environments, created to provide an enhanced experience of the healing power of nature within our communities. The multisensory immersion environments are relaxing, calming, and enriching. Soulful Environments integrates architectural and interior design, technology, holistic therapies and evidence based health and wellness research. The philosophy is based on a unique recognition that physical residences and gardens have potential to heal, bringing healing power of nature to unexpected places.
