The Village Senior Residence in Missoula Marks it’s 25th Anniversary

Senior Living & Health Care Community Celebrates 25 Years of Service to Western Montana

MISSOULA, Mont., April 14, 2014The Village Senior Residence, a Platinum Service® senior living community in Southwest Missoula, managed by The Goodman Group, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this wee. The Village Senior Residence has spent the last 25 years doing what it does best: providing residents in Western Montana with a full continuum of care so they can stay in the same residential community, as their care needs change. The Village Senior Residence offers independent living, assisted living and memory care. The senior living community is planning a Spring Style Show on April 17 and Information Fair on April 19, and invites the community to participate.

The community is managed under the leadership of Executive Director Bev Mix for more than 25 years, from its pre-opening to this day. Since The Village Senior Residence opened on April 15, 1988, Mix has directed the care of more than a thousand residents from Missoula and the surrounding areas, as Missoula serves as a shopping and medical hub for smaller communities of western Montana for up to 150 miles. Most recently, The Village Senior Residence opened its Pearl Garden secured memory unit in November 2013.VSR-Logo-with-title-300x187

“Bev has been an excellent leader for our Senior Living & Health Care Division,” said Craig Edinger, vice president, senior living & health care, The Goodman Group. “The Village Senior Residence is a great example of our company’s pioneering accomplishments in the senior living industry in Montana. Twenty-five years ago, The Village Senior Residence was among the first locations in our company to help draw upon the best service attributes from the hospitality and best practices of the healthcare fields to create and manage living environments that emphasize quality of life and enable residents and staff to achieve an optimum level of well-being. We are proud to have recently added our nationally-acclaimed Pearls of Life® memory care program, and we now have nine managed senior living communities in the state.”

“It has been an honor to be the first administrator of The Village Senior Residence, which was Missoula’s first larger senior living community,” said Bev Mix. “We started out with 102 apartments, and with renovation and new apartment configurations over the past 25 years we have reduced the number of units to 99. In our early years, we had residents who were children of Missoula’s pioneers of the early 1900’s, and it is amazing to listen to their personal family history, from the daughter of an early Missoula pharmacy family, a family member of a pioneer potato chip manufacturer, and the grandson of a circuit judge, to name a few.”

Mix also takes great pride in her staff. She explained that it is always a great accomplishment when a fiercely independent senior moves in, probably at more the urging of a family member, when extra support is needed, and in a short time, learns to love their new community, the staff, the dining options, the Life Enrichment program, and the opportunity for peer social interaction. Many times, Mix said she has been told by residents like this, that they wonder why they waited so long to make this move. She said the situation is a “win/win” for everyone, the resident and their family. She has witnessed the blossoming of new resident friendships, and the renewal of friendships of residents that had gone to kindergarten together.

To celebrate the community’s 25the anniversary on April 13, The Village Senior Residence is planning a week of activities including its residents, their family members, staff and the Missoula community.
