Event Honors Jacob Stoneking’s Wish to Help Families Facing Childhood Cancer
PORTLAND (CLACKAMAS), Ore., March 7, 2014 — Miramont Pointe, a senior living community, is hosting the Jacob Stoneking Inaugural Benefit for Candlelighters For Children With Cancer to honor him, and his sole wish to help make a difference for families facing childhood cancer. Jacob Stoneking, known by family and friends as “Jake,” is the son of Todd and Wendy Stoneking. Wendy, is the business office director at Miramont Pointe, and an employee there for the past eight years. The Country-themed benefit dinner and party will also celebrate Jake’s life and care for others and will be held on Thursday, March 13 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Miramont Pointe at 11520 SE Sunnyside Road.
Stoneking is facing a terminal form of brain cancer called medulloblastoma and wants to help others by supporting the organization which has brought great comfort and support to him and his family. Every year, Candlelighters helps over a thousand families in Oregon and SW Washington. The public and members of the local business community are invited to attend and donate Gift Cards for Candlelighters Emergency Fund from “Jake’s Top 10 List of Favorite Places,” or their own, so they can use them to help kids and their families in the region facing childhood cancer.
Donations can be made online by visiting Candlelighters For Children With Cancer Website and designating “Jacob Stoneking Benefit” in the notes section of the donation form, and donations will also be accepted at the event. Candlelighters is a 501(c)3 and, therefore, contributions may be tax-deductible.
“A family’s childhood cancer diagnosis comes not only with great emotional stress, but may also cause financial challenges,” said Janet Sam, executive director, Candlelighters For Children With Cancer. “Gift cards presented to families help to purchase groceries, to pay for gas as they travel to and from the hospital, to enjoy a meal out and away together as a family, or to simply allow the child or teen the opportunity to purchase something and take their mind off what is arguably the most tumultuous time of their life. The Candlelighters Emergency Fund serves to ease at least one stress brought on by the diagnosis and is a valuable resource to the entire family. We offer our very best wishes to the Stoneking family, and will continue to support them in any way needed,” she added.
“Our senior living community is incredibly proud of Jake, and Wendy, who is part of our highly dedicated staff, and their family, and want to help support this important cause which will create a wonderful legacy for his selfless generosity and compassion for others,” said Cynthia Herb, executive director at Miramont Pointe. “Candlelighters is an exceptional organization which helps the community and families affected by childhood cancer covering essential areas including support, education, advocacy and hope. We would like our residents and their families, as well as local businesses and the public to join together with us to make this benefit fundraiser a great success, and an annual event with Candlelighters to honor Jake.”
The complimentary Country-themed dinner will be created by Executive Chef Chris Hudock, of Miramont Pointe’s Pacifica Restaurant, and feature many of Jake’s Favorite foods such as BBQ pork, baked beans, Spanish rice, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a Root Beer Float Bar. Entertainment for all ages will include country music, line dancing and boot-scooting, two different arcade games, and much more. Please RSVP by March 10 by calling (503) 698-1600 or visiting: firstname.lastname@example.org.
